Ministry for Youth Services and Sports said on Tuesday that projects worth Rs 28 crores are underway in sports sector for developing better infrastructure and logistic facilities in the state.
This was disclosed at a high level meeting held under the Chairmanship of Minister for Youth Services & Sports, IT and Technical Education, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari here today .
Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, IT and Technical Education, Hilal Ahmad Parry, Secretary Sports Council, Javaid Ahmad Shah, Special Secretary YSS, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Executive Engineers of Sports Council were present in the meeting.
During the meeting the Minister was apprised about the progress of ongoing works of sports infrastructure in the state and it was given out that out of 50 works 26 have been completed while as work is in full swing on 24 such works which include construction of new indoor stadium, pavilion at KK Hakku Hockey stadium, Kabaddi ground in Jammu division and development of play fields at Nanil Bijbehara, Hakbara, Qamarwari in Kashmir division.
The minister was further informed that 3 additional works coming at a cost of Rs 8 crore are progressing in Rajouri and Poonch districts under special package program.
He was informed that North Zone Hand ball championship is proposed to be held at Jammu in the current month while as South Asian Rugby Championship shall be played at Srinagar in the month of July 2016. Likewise, North zone Athletic Championship and Federation Cup Body Building Championship is proposed to be held at Jammu in the month of August 2016 and February 2017 respectively.
The Minister was also apprised that South Asian Chess Championship, Senior National Fencing Championship and South Asian handball Championship is proposed to be held at Srinagar in the month of September and October 2016.
Among others senior officers of sports department and sports council were also present.
